An Exciting Offroad MTB Ride From Winster

This month’s route takes us into the peak district again starting from Winster. It’s a fairly hilly route taking in some demanding up’s and downs suitable for MTB bikes.

The village itself is characterized by its quaint stone cottages, narrow winding streets, and traditional architecture, giving visitors a glimpse into rural English life. Winster has a rich history dating back centuries, with evidence of human habitation in the area since prehistoric times. Its historical significance is evident in the various listed buildings and landmarks scattered throughout the village, including the medieval Church of St. John the Baptist and the 17th-century Market House. There are a few pubs there too of course.

The route passes through Ible where you will be treated to some downhill action before hitting a very steep mile-long climb through Griffe Wood which should be full of wild garlic, which is found all around this area.

Heading out along a farm track we drop down to Grangmill and head up to Aldwark along Mill Lane

Passing near the High Peak Trail we reach the highest point of the ride at around 1200ft, before dropping down into Pikehill. We take the long route to avoid the road.

From here you could take a trip down Gratton Dale for a short but potentially muddy shortcut, but we are going down Long Dale.

Follow the route around the dales and to eventually hit the village of Elton and complete your exciting offroad MTB ride from winster

If you’ve made it this far now would be a good time to hit the cafe of pubs back in the village of Winster.
