Start and Finish: Derby City Center
Distance: 25 miles
Total Ascent: 250m
Terrain: Mostly gravel paths
Suitable for: Road, MTB, hybrid and e-bikes
This route starts at the river gardens in Derby City Center, although you could join anywhere along the route. This is a nice flat route with nothing too technical along the way so is suitable for any ability including families and kids. If the whole route is a little too far just turn around and head back the way you came.
After passing through the Derby River Gardens, the route follows the River Derwent, passing via Pride Park Stadium and the Derby Velodrome.
Take a right turn into Alvaston Park with the lake on your left and follow the gravel track through Alvaston and Allenton and then onto Shelton Lock.
The route follows the old canal path before meeting the canal at Swarkstone. Cross the Canel Bridge and turn left and follow the Trent and Mersey Canel path for about half a mile. Watch for a turn on your right and take this to join the Cloud Trail.
Consider stopping for a moment to enjoy the views on the bridge over the River Trent.
The route now meanders along passing near Melbourne and Breedon on the Hill before coming to an end near Worthington.
If you have made it this far, pat yourself on the back, pause for breath and turn around for the journey home.
